The age of consent
The age of sexual consent in the Philippines is 12 for all, but contacts with minors (under 18) are an offence if the minor consents to the act for money, gain or any other remuneration or as the result of an influence of any adult person.
It's this that makes it effectively illegal for anyone over 18 to have sex with one under 18, Republic Act 7610, section 6

Voices of Children in Poor Communities

Speak Your Mind

Filipino chanteuse, Regine Velasquez takes time off her busy schedule to examine the issues surrounding "children in need of special protection", a term used by UNICEF to cover all those children in difficult circumstances. They are the abandoned children who need love and shelter. They are the abused children in need of protection from abuse and violence at home. They are the street children - living and/or working on the streets. They are the working little ones who risk life and limb in hazardous work environments. To explore the issues in depth, Regine visited the community in Payatas, one of the biggest garbage dumps in Manila and joined the street educators on the streets of Manila.

Too young to marry
Mara Cepeda September 01, 2019

When Fatima woke up three days into the new year, she had no idea the day would end with her becoming tied for the rest of her life to a man she barely knew. Fatima learns her relatives have sealed her marriage to a stranger 8 years her senior. And her mother Isha – a child bride herself – was powerless to stop it
She was 14 years old. In 7 months, Fatima will be a mother. The child will be born after she turns 15
Anywhere else in the Philippines, young people like Fatima are permitted by the Family Code to marry only after reaching the age of 18. Muslim minors are an exception. Presidential Decree (PD) No. 1083 , or the Code of Muslim Personal Laws, allows Filipino Muslim males the right to marry at the age of 15. Muslim females, provided they have begun menstruating, are allowed to marry as young as 12, provided there is permission from their male guardian, or wali. Philippines Against Child Trafficking, Prostitution & Pornography

Selling Kids for Sex is Not Cool

The 1st world countries will always take advantages of the poor!. 90 $ for sex with three kids. You can't even buy an ipod for that. - The kids are selling themselves! Making the bed! Setting the price!
Papasan must have trained them well. THE YOUNGER THEY ARE, THE MORE SALEABLE THEY ARE! This is 100% a problem with the kids families, who would know well what was going on, probably running it! The brother seems to be having fun with it also. It is sick beyond comprehension and below humanities worst behaviors ever....

The Philippines has 1.8 million abandoned children. Here's what keeps many from adoption
Jonathan Kaiman - Sunshine de Leon May 28, 2016

The Philippines has an abandoned children problem. About 1.8 million children in the country, more than 1% of its entire population, are "abandoned or neglected," according to the United Nations' Children's Rights & Emergency Relief Organization.

Some are victims of extreme poverty; others of natural disasters and armed conflicts in the country's riven south, or the sex workers’ children, conceived by foreign travellers.

Fallen Angels. True cost of sex tourism:

Philippine’s fatherless kids of Angeles City Streetwalkers

Angeles City in the Philippines is a well-known sex tourism destination. There used to be an American air base here, but now it’s popular among mainly retired men who travel in search of sex for sale. Hundreds of local young women work in the bars and night clubs offering additional services for the money they desperately need to make ends meet and feed their families.
The real victims though are the sex workers’ children, conceived by foreign travellers.

These children immediately stand out in the crowd, being of mixed-race here almost certainly means a child is the product of a liaison between a sex tourist and a call girl. They may stand out but they’re not unusual, within their communities there are many children of the sex trade.

Amerasians - Forgotten Filipino-American Children

By definition, an Amer-Asian is any person fathered by a citizen of the United States of America (i.e. an American servicemen, expatriate, or government employee whether government or contractual) and whose mother is or was an Asian national.
Reports estimate that there are about 52,000 Amerasians in the Philippines. Astonishingly, they are still growing in numbers despite the fact that the Americans have long abandoned the US Air Base in the country.

Subic Bay Children's Home - Amerasian & Orphan Children Olongapo City

Subic Bay Orphan Children. For many years U.S. Navy ships would pull into Subic Bay near Olongapo City. Young navy servicemen would go into Olongapo City and find themselves a woman for the night. The navy servicemen would leave not knowing that they had fathered an Amerasian child. Many of these Amerasian orphans grew up on the streets of Olongapo City never having parents that cared for them. Subic Bay Children's Home and Subic Bay Baptist Church under the leadership of Missionary Teddy Fulfer need our help. They have taken homeless, abused children off the streets away from the evils of drugs and prostitution to provide food, clothing, and shelter.

Looking into rise of illegal adoption through social media
Feb 16, 2021 CNN Philippines

February is Adoption Consciousness Month.
The country only allows adoption through the Social Welfare department.
But in recent years, social media has become an avenue to get hold of children illegally.
AC Nicholls takes a closer look in the first part of her special report.

The importance of following legal adoption process in PH
Feb 17, 2021 CNN Philippines

Illegal adoption conducted online has been on the rise in recent years putting the wellbeing of children at risk.
What is the legal process and why is it important to follow this route?
AC Nicholls tells us in the second part of her special report.

This is a public service announcement - Feb 23, 2015 - from DSWD - Department of Social Welfare and Development - Philippines:

Ever thought of adoption?

The government is hoping more potential parents will consider the option of legally adopting children who are in the care of private and public orphanages across the country.

There are 3 kinds of adoption in the Philippines:
•Agency adoptions: A licensed adoption agency identifies and develops adoptive families for children who are voluntarily or involuntarily committed. This is managed either by DSWD or licensed NGOs or child-placing agencies like the Kaisahang Buhay Foundation.
•Family or relative adoptions: The biological parents make a direct placement of the child to a relative.
•Private or independent adoptions: Can be a direct placement to a family known by the child’s biological parents or through someone who arranges family placements.

The DSWD, however, warns of "black markets" or illegal procedures wherein children are given up for adoption in exchange for cash or other means of profit.
