The neglected water and sanitation crisis Kevin Rudd September 26, 2020 The COVID-19 crisis has laid bare the importance of access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene. As we all know now, hand washing is one of the best frontline defenses against the virus. Yet three billion people — almost half of the world’s population — lack access to basic hand-washing facilities, around one-third (2.2 billion people) do not have access to safe drinking water, and almost twice as many (4.2 billion) go without safe sanitation services of any kind. |

Waste and wastes are unwanted or unusable materials. Waste is any substance which is discarded after primary use, or it is worthless, defective and of no use. The term is often subjective (because what is waste to one need not necessarily be waste to another) and sometimes objectively inaccurate (for example, to send scrap metals to a landfill is to inaccurately classify them as waste, because they are recyclable). |

‘Drink your turbid water,’ consumers dare Maynilad Inquirer.net Jul 18, 2019 Consumers challenged Maynilad officials to drink the turbid water tapped from their faucets as they lamented what they called as poor service from the water concessionaire. -- 'Islang Uhaw' GMA Public Affairs Apr 8, 2019 Cobrador Island lies on the northern tip of the Province of Romblon. Behind the beauty and serenity of this island, lies an age-old problem of the island’s residents—the lack of potable water. Out of 7 sitios, there are only 9 sources of water for the 1,000 residents. In one part of the island, an old well and an equally old artesian well are the main sources of fresh water, disregarding the yellowish color, metallic taste, and sometimes, saltiness of its quality. Look the FULL description in Tagalog and English -- Paraisong Uhaw Jul 8, 2017 In a country where modernization is fast approaching, there are still several parts in the Philippines where modernization is something their residents would clamor for. If water supply is always accessible for most Filipinos, in Masbate, its residents would dig deep into the ground just to look for possible supply of water that would quench their livings filled with hunger -- ‘Bayang Uhaw’ - Parched Land, English subtitles Aug 18, 2016 The video entitled ‘Bayang Uhaw’ features ‘the water scarcity in some areas in the country.’ May 24, 2016 A flight attendant/social entrepreneur, Joana Bacallo talks about Agua Pura, a foundation borne out of her advocacy to make clean water accessible to remote areas. -- Saan kumukuha ng malinis na tubig ang mga taga-Sitangkai? Sitangkai is a first class municipality where people enjoy the abundance of the
sea. But this waterworld community is also waterless. Residents pay a steep
price for fresh water supply sourced from adjacent islands or from the main
island of Bongao which can be reached five hours by boat. Alas, for those who
could not afford to pay for fresh water, they pray for rain to come. |

Safe Water to ALL Poor water quality has large economic and quality of life costs, in terms of health impacts and foregone revenues. According to the Philippine government's monitoring data, just over 36 percent of the country's river systems are classified as sources of public water supply and that up to 58 percent of groundwater sampled is contaminated with coliform and needs treatment. Approximately 31 percent of illnesses monitored for a five-year period were also caused by water-borne sources, and many areas are experiencing a shortage of water supply, during the dry season. -- Instilling Water Integrity in Sibagat Celebrating the award winning anti-corruption project on water governance, wherein citizens from Sibagat were trained to monitor the Public Finance processes of water projects to mitigate corruption and instil integrity.
