Is it all fair game in the information war on social media?
The Philippine military has a social media problem.
In the past few weeks, its soldiers and units have been entangled in various controversies involving their use of the popular platform Facebook.
At least 3 Army servicemen were identified as being behind a suspended network of accounts and pages displaying “inauthentic behavior” that amplified political messages in support of the Duterte administration.

Despite the disruption of trials because of the pandemic caused by the 2019 novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the country is set to maintain this year the number of convictions in human trafficking cases.

This was stressed by the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Council (JJWC), as it warned Monday the local officials and law enforcement authorities against imposing inhumane and harsh penalties against minors who are found violating quarantine protocols.

Technology to detect livestreamed abuse has yet to be developed or utilized by internet service providers, according to the International Justice Mission.
A new study revealed that within 3 years, the estimated prevalence rate of online sexual exploitation of children (OSEC) in the Philippines more than tripled – from 43 out of every 10,000 Internet Protocol (IP) addresses linked to child sexual exploitation in 2014, to 149 out of 10,000 in 2017.

With widespread poverty, lax laws, and creaking judicial systems, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, and the Philippines have long been seen as soft spots by foreign and local pedophiles seeking out underage sex in person.
